My Run

I'm finished with my run,
And I'm glad that I can state it,
Because now that it's finally done,
I'm at ease enough to relate it.
That I've stopped seeing my shrink,
(Not on medication any longer),
So that when I feel myself sink,
I've got the tools to make myself stronger.

So I'm ready to conform,
(But it's not that easy to perform),
What do you do when you're not out whoring?
It's all of a sudden so terribly boring.
And I find myself in front of the tv all night,
and I don't want to play and I don't want to write.
And I do my best to numb my brain from thinking,
Because the minute I don't, I can feel myself sinking.

So, I'm a regular, socially up-standing man,
I wear a smile and a jacket and tie.
And I try to follow sports whenever I can,
So I can feign your interests (but it's really a lie).
'Cause I'd rather be out,
And up and about,
Or at least I watch porn and masturbate,
And do things society would alienate.

But I'm finished with my run,
It'll probably kill me to have another one,
So I'm finished with my run,
It's over now but man, was it fun.

Shine

Gotta put food on the table,
Not even sure if I'm able,
Doesn't matter whether or not I want to.
So I muster up all my powers,
And I try to work some extra hours,
Cause a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.
I'm up and I'm going, 'cause the going is tough,
And I work to the bone but it's still not enough,
And it sucks away my strength and saps my will.
It's always an uphill fight,
So count your blessings and bet I'm right,
There's no romance, no "death or glory".
Just have to keep at it,
Never surrender, never quit,
'Cause these are the cards you've been dealt,
So make them count.
No need to be bitter,
What do you need to be bitter for?
You gotta pick up the litter,
Dust yourself up off the floor.
No need to be bitter,
What do you need to be bitter for?
You can't be a quitter,
It's just another chance for you to shine,
So shine.

High-Tech

Gonna build a website and I'll name it after me,
Throw away my dreams down to the bottom of the sea,
I use to be a real extreme,
A mean machine, I once was lean,
Guess I really let myself go.
I work in high-tech:
I manage,
Control damage,
But you wont see me,
I'm just another face in the crowd.

Thirty-something; got a child, a stack of bills, a pension plan,
Thirty-something years to go until I see a cent,
Before it's earned, the money spent,
Try as I might, can't supplement,
If the world is on my shoulders,
Naturally my back is bent.
I work in high-tech,
Don't need praises,
I need raises,
Trying to make ends meet,
I'm just another face in the crowd.
